An Easy-Peasy Way To Fix Scratches On Your Car

Have you ever noticed how easily your car gets scratched? It’s inevitable, really – with kids, pets, and just general life happening around you, it’s bound to happen at some point. But that does not mean it has to stay that way!

There are super easy ways to fix scratches on your car that don’t require special tools or skills. All you need is some supplies and a few minutes of your time. Keep reading for some tips by Mike Patton Honda on how to do it.

Car Scratches: How and Why?

First, let’s talk about how and why car scratches happen. They usually occur when something comes into contact with your car’s paint job, causing it to chip or break off. This can be anything from a sharp object grazing the surface to accidentally dropping something on your car. In any case, it’s important to act quickly to prevent further damage.

Types Of Car Scratches

Well, different types of scratches can occur on your car. The first is a surface-level scratch, the most common and easiest to fix. These scratches don’t go through the clear coat and only affect the paint job.

The second type is a deep scratch, which goes through the clear coat and the paint job. Deep scratches are more difficult to fix, but it’s still possible with the right tools and techniques.

The third type of scratch is a keyed car scratch, when someone intentionally uses a key or other sharp object to damage your car’s paint job. This type of scratch is more difficult to fix but not impossible. If you have a keyed car scratch, it’s best to take it to a professional for repair.

Fixing Car Scratches: The Super Easy Way

Now that you know how and why car scratches happen, it’s time to learn how to fix them! This process is pretty simple, and all you need are a few supplies. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A can of touch-up paint that matches your car (you can usually find this at an auto parts store)
  • A fine-grit sandpaper
  • A polishing compound
  • A clean cloth

Once you have these supplies, follow the steps below:

  1. Start by cleaning the region around the scratch with mild soap and water. This will terminate any dirt or debris that could prevent the touch-up paint from adhering properly.
  2. Next, use the sandpaper to gently sand down the area around the scratch. You want to create a smooth surface for the paint to adhere to. Be cautious not to sand too hard, as you could damage the paint beneath.
  3. Now it’s time to apply the touch-up paint. Use short, precise strokes to apply the paint to the scratch. It’s important not to overdo it, as too much paint can make the area look worse than before.
  4. Once the paint is dry, use the polishing compound to buff out any rough edges.
  5. Finally, use a clean cloth to wipe away any excess compound.

And that’s it! Your car’s scratch should now be barely noticeable.
